Everybody gets the same amount of hours each day, but some seem to be able to accomplish more. The difference lies in how efficiently you use those hours. These time management tips will allow you work smarter, not more.
1. Plan ahead.
It may be impossible to anticipate everything that will come your way but you should make every effort to be as prepared as you can. Make a list with the things you must accomplish each day. Include any meetings or deadlines which might impact your schedule. Estimate the amount of time each task will require as accurately as possible. This will keep you on course and feel more productive.
2. Eliminate distractions.
Distractions can come from any number of places: social media, work colleagues texts, personal phone calls, or even random thoughts – and they can all wreak chaos on your productivity. Try to pinpoint the things that distract you and devise a plan to deal with them. Maybe it’s closing your doors to minimize distractions or putting your phone on silent for instance. Maybe it’s about not letting your friends in and rescheduling your coffee date for a different day when you have a critical assignment due.
3. Prioritize your tasks.
Every day, take a look at and prioritize each task based on importance and urgency. This will prevent you from feeling overwhelmed by a list of tasks that is miles long and will ensure you get the most critical tasks done first.
